The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals; those looked after by the local authority and children of armed service personnel.
At IQRA it is our intention that all pupils within our school will make good progress from their starting points irrespective of their background or the challenges they face. The focus of our pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to achieve and reach their full potential, using quality first teaching, targeted support, and wider strategies.
At IQRA Academy, we have high aspirations and ambitions for our children, and we believe that no child should be disadvantaged. We strongly believe that it is not about where you come from but your passion for knowledge, and your dedication to learning that makes the difference between success and failure. We are determined to ensure that our pupils are given every chance to achieve their full potential.
Most pupils are of Pakistani heritage for almost all our pupils English is an additional language. Children come from a particularly challenging catchment area. With an IDACI score of 1, the school serves a community in the top 10% most deprived areas of the UK and with the highest level of violent crime in Bradford.
The low aspirations of some families bring additional challenges. The ratio of parents who attended higher education is extremely low and, for many children, they will be the first generation to aim for higher education.
We know that covid had a significant impact on our pupils and families due to the levels of deprivation, large families, and lack of experiences outside of the community. Covid exacerbated the challenges pupils already faced. One of the greatest challenges is the very low level of basic skills that children have when they join the nursery.

You can check your child’s eligibility for Pupil Premium or continued free school meals through Bradford councils online system.
You will need to enter your name, address, national insurance number or asylum support service number. In addition, you will need to provide your child’s name, date of birth and identify the school they are attending.
Parents/guardians in England do not have to pay for school meals if they receive any of the following:
Income Support
Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Pupil Premium is an important payment for schools and a really good opportunity for eligible parents to get even more support for their children in schools.
If you think your child may possibly be eligible for free school meals, even if you don’t want your child to eat school meals, please apply online. Every child who is eligible generates valuable funding. If you need assistance applying please contact the school office where we will be happy help.
We strongly encourage all eligible parents/carers to apply for this status. No one will know who has registered and it will not affect any other benefits being claimed.
Any children who are entitled to free schools meals, whether they take them up or not, means that our school is given extra funding to help support our pupils needs.
The government once again provided extra funding with the aim to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programs offered by primary schools. Although the funding is allocated to primary schools it is ‘ring fenced’ – this means it can only be spent specifically on PE and Sport in schools.
