An ex-pupil returns to Iqra

On Thursday 19th October an ex-pupil visited Irqa Academy to see how the school has changed since he was a pupil in 1961. Pupils and staff enjoyed hearing what it was like to be a pupil in previous years and how the school building has changed. We are glad that some of the original features remain.

Mr Kerrison is writing a book and his visit to the school brought back many happy memories:

Good morning.

Well it’s just over a week since I visited Iqra Academy which brought back many memories from when I attended back in 1961 – 1965.
Although the buildings have changed internally over the years, the layout is generally as I remember.  It was easy to remember names of teachers and which class room they were in.
I have a photograph of the school from 1964 and I will, when I locate it, send a copy by email.
It was a pleasure to be part of year 4 assembly and to share a few memories with the children and parents.
Please pass on my thanks to all the staff and Mrs Bleem for the kind welcome and visit. Also to Mrs Spence for her time in showing me around the school.
Sending you and everyone at Irqa best wishes for the future.
Kind regards.
Ian Kerrison
